New Installer on macOS

Arc Search 1.0.1 is now available on macOS and now comes as an installer package (.pkg) instead of a disk image. Installing over an existing copy keeps your libraries, favorites and settings.

Faster Indexing of Large Libraries

Improvements to index batching have made indexing considerably faster and greatly reduced disk writes. Stopping, quitting, a crash or a power cut loses at most the batch in progress, for sound search and keyword search alike. Existing indexes open as they are, with no re-indexing needed.

Interrupted Indexing No Longer Sets Files Aside

Improved stability when quitting or force-quitting Arc during indexing, or when Arc closes due to a power failure.

Startup With Large Libraries

Improvements have been added while loading large libraries at startup so the app stays responsive during a long load.

Force Re-index

A Force Re-index that is interrupted by a quit, crash or power cut now resumes as the same Force Re-index the next time Arc starts. Clearing a library's old index happens in short steps, so Arc stays usable while it runs, and Stop takes effect within a second or two.

Keyword Database Update for Existing Libraries

Libraries indexed with an earlier version show an orange alert in the sidebar: "Keyword database out of date (this is a quick update)". Click Update to bring the keyword index up to date. This should only take a few seconds and does not re-index your sounds. Ignore hides the alert for this session, or permanently. Updating the Keyword database improves Keyword search and indexing performance.

Windows Fixes

  • Arc's background search process now always closes with the app, including when the app is ended from Task Manager. Previously it could keep indexing on its own.
  • Arc now works when your Windows user folder has a name with accented or non-English characters. Previously indexing could fail for these users.
  • Improved stability when indexing libraries associated with a whole mapped network drive (for example Z:\). A mapped drive's library name also no longer shows an extra backslash.
